Colton Fretter hit a brace and led the Steelers to victory against the Cardiff Devils on Sunday securing a vital 4 point weekend.
Fretter (2), Franssila, Kirk and Captain Jonathan Phillips all netted for Paul Thompson’s side in an exciting tough battle at the Arena.
It was Fretter who opened the scoring shooting high blocker at 7.56 (Aarsson)
5.39 into the middle period Miika Franssila blasted home to double the Steelers advantage.
The Devils hit back through Strachan at 26.59 – moments later though Strachan would depart the game after a match penalty for a hit to the head, that incident also led to a fight with Steeler Matt Marquardt.
The 5 minute powerplay that followed would eventually decide the game.
First Fretter made it 3-1 at 28.24 (Matheson and Dowd)
Then, with NHL scouts again in the crowd watching, Liam Kirk made it 4-1 just 27 seconds later.
The impressive Joey Martin narrowed the score in the 34th minute leaving all to play for in the final session.
There was little flow in the 3rd period with penalties dominating the final 20 minutes.
Captain Jonathan Phillips rounded off the scoring in the final seconds with an empty net goal.
A 4 point weekend was complete – Steelers 4-2 Cardiff Devils.
