60600 CHALLENGE 2017 – FUNDRAISING FOR ALZHEIMER’S SOCIETY AND UNITING AGAINST DEMENTIA

60600 challenge – an alternative to a 60th birthday party for Julie Brailey.

Raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Society and standing united against dementia by doing something amazing with a sliver of time.

The Brailey family set out to ask 60 people to raise £600 each, and up to this weekend over 80 people have delivered some amazing challenges throughout the year and raised almost £60,000 so far.

The 60/600 challenge is a finalist in the Group fundraiser of the year at the Alzheimer’s Society dementia friendly awards 2017

85000 people in UK suffering with dementia, and another 225,000 will be diagnosed this year

That’s a diagnosis every 3 minutes.

Tonight David Grey, Chair of SIV will complete his amazing challenge  of participating in 60 sports over 6 days – with two challenges involving the Steelers. During the 1st interval David will take part in the “Penalty Shot Challenge” followed by a “Cheerleader Challenge” during the 2nd interval.

During his 6 day challenge, another 1300 people will have received a dementia diagnosis.

This gruelling challenge has included

Spin class, weight lifting, indoor rowing,  para table tennis, curling, figure skating, speed skating, diving from 10 metre board at Ponds Forge, wheelchair rugby, karate, golf, foot golf, racquetball, squash, badminton, para badminton, walking football, bowls, ice hockey, handball, water polo, basketball, 5 a side football, 11 a side football, snooker, skateboarding, tea dancing, taekwondo, aikido, tan soo-do, roller derby, swimming, wheelchair basketball, volleyball, goal ball, korfball, netball, boccia, life-saving, cricket, cycling, altitude, gymnastics, trampoline, sledge hockey, wrestling, darts, athletics – 12 disciplines, and cheerleading!

Anyone affected by dementia, – sufferer, carer, family member or friend knows just how devastating this disease can be.  60600 funds will fund research and also support the great work that the Alzheimer’s Society does to give help to sufferers and their carers.  Music groups, art classes, sport sessions and many more – all help sufferers keep active and stimulated, and allow   carers to take a small but precious break from the very difficult challenges they face in becoming full time carers for their loved ones.

The Sheffield Steelers are proud to be part of the 60600 challenge –and have teamed up with award winning Sheffield singer Steve Edwards. Twice Grammy nominated, no. one on US Billboard charts and world music award winner – Steve has donated one of his songs to the Challenge

‘A Good Life’ is available now for download from all major platforms – and all proceeds go to the challenge fund.

So how have the Steelers and Steve teamed up – tonight the music video is launched here and then right across social media.

Details of how to donate – by text, or by Just Giving will appear on the screen, as well as being able to download the song. Your generosity will help us keep uniting against dementia – and help people live a good life wherever possible.

Do something amazing with a sliver of your time and give generously – thank you

There’s an Alzheimer’s gazebo in the glass bowl where you can find out more about the work the society does, and how you can get involved. Visit the stand and you can pick up a raffle entry to win a box at a Steelers match of your choice.  All we ask is that you make a cash donation at the stand – and the draw will be before tonight’s final session.
