4 Point Weekend for the Steelers
Steelers continue their excellent run off form with a 5-1 victory over Dundee Stars
Goals from Mike Juusola, Patrick Watling, Robert Dowd, Marco Vallerand and Scott Allen secured the points as the Steelers march on at the top of the league.
Steelers kept the same team that beat Nottingham Panthers on Saturday, with Matt Greenfield starting between the pipes.
First Period.
Steelers came out strong with Stars goalie Kevin Carr making some excellent early saves.
Mikko Juusola opened the scoring with a deflected shot that looped up high over Carr, he got his glove to the puck put it deflected into the goal for the the nights opener.
11.05 and it was Carr who took a 2 minute minor for delaying the game for stopping the play by freezing the puck behind the goal
Whilst the Steelers wouldn’t score on the PP they shortly after doubled their lead when Patrick Watling finished with a fine one timer (assisted Nicholls and Juusola) at 15.07
Second Period.
An up and down middle session with Dundee narrowing the Steelers advantage when Spencer Naas beat Matt Greenfield at 31.31 with line mates Valentini and Harms assisting
It wasn’t long before the Steelers extended their lead, a carbon copy for Josh Nicholls who made the same pass to Robert Dowd as he had earlier done for Mikko Juusola.
Dowdy hammered home a one timer with #10 and #63 picking up the assists.
At the end of the period, Stars coach Marc Lefevbre took a 2 minute minor for abuse of an official granting the Steelers a 3rd period power-play.
Third Period.
Steelers took full advantage of the power-play with Marco Vallerand hitting home at 41.07 (Saucerman and Balmas)
46.05 and Scott Allen added a 5th goal from close range (Diffley and Ciampini) for a 5-1 scoreline
Steelers continued to create in the final moment with Mark Simpson also going close.
The scoring was over but two further penalties followed
