Steelers Add Morrone and Laing to Goaltending team

The Steelers have completed their goaltending roster for the season ahead with the double signing of Anthony Morrone and Angus Laing.

Morrone (24) joins the club from HK Olimpija Ljubljana and is a former team mate of Marco Vallerand.

Laing (24) returns to the UK from North America where he has been learning his trade as well as attending University.

Head coach Aaron Fox said “Anthony is a goalie coming off sharing the net in the IceHL in Ljubljana.

“He played very well for a bottom end team and is coming in to compete for starts alongside Matt Greenfield.

“Anthony is 6’2 plays a aggressive style, and moves very well. He competes extremely hard and has very high character and is a great teammate which is very important when you have 2 Import NM.

“Angus Laing is coming back into the country as our British goalie. He spent a few years in NA and is excited to join the squad and develop his game.

“This is a great opportunity for the three goalies to work together and give us the best chance to win every night

“I love the look of our NM import trio”

Speaking from Canada, Morrone said “I’ve been in touch with Foxy for a couple of years now, this time was the right time to work together and I can’t wait to arrive

“I’m told we are gunning for a championship and I love that pressure, I just want to win both as a player and for the team. If Matt’s in goal and we win great, if I’m in goal and we win great”

Describing himself Anthony says “I play a big game, I play big in net though I am very calm.

“I’m athletic and I move well, most importantly I compete”

Laing is excited to start his professional career saying ““It was an easy decision to make Sheffield the first team of my professional career. I have worked with many of the Brit’s before such as Dowdy and Jonno. I was part of the u18/u20 Sheffield team that won national championships with Cole and Liam. So, going in to this team, it already feels like home. This is an organization that takes pride in developing its players as well as winning. I am more than grateful to be a Steeler.”

“It’s a great opportunity and one I intend to grasp being with the biggest and best organisation in the league. Hopefully this move will start my professional career”
