Steelers last summer signing of 2023, Mitchell Balmas was head coach Aaron Fox’s 12^th addition to this year’s squad.

25 Year old Balmas can play at centre or wing and has been on Aaron Fox’s radar for the last 18 months.

Playing his junior hockey in the Quebec Major Junior League, Balmas was a big scorer with 131 strikes in 322 games including a 50 goal season with Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in 2019

Balmas then moved to St Mary’s University for a three year spell where he played for a short time alongside Brett Neumann

Turning pro in 2022 Balmass then went on to play 46 AHL and 21 ECHL games, leaving the Iowa Wild last season in order to head to Europe for the first time and signing for Sheffield.

Head coach Aaron Fox said “Mitchell is a guy I have been working on all summer and think very highly of as a player. He’s a guy who I expected to sign back in the AHL this year so when his agent reached back out to us in the last couple weeks of the off season we decided to make the move”
