Aaron Fox is the Steelers New Head Coach and GM.

The Sheffield Window Centre, Sheffield Steelers, today confirm Aaron Fox as our new Head Coach and GM.

The 42-year-old American takes over the coaching and general managers position with immediate effect, after agreeing on a 3-year contract with club Owner, Tony Smith.

Fox enjoyed a successful playing career spending the majority of his time in Europe, plying his trade and scoring goals in Germany, Austria, Slovenia and Croatia.

For the last 4 years, Fox has been the sporting manager, and latterly the Head Coach of Medvescak Zagreb (KHL/EBEL)

“The decision to come to Sheffield is built around being in a top professional organisation that does things the right way” said Fox  “and one that expects to win on a yearly basis.  I love the idea of being able to build a team that has high aspirations and find a way to create a new identity and culture moving forward that will give us an opportunity to compete for winning Championships again

“I understand last year was not good enough form the ownership to the fans and I am looking forward to turning things around

“I feel my biggest strength is the recruiting side of things.  We were the smallest budget in the KHL for 4 years and found a way to be very competitive even though teams were spending 5 – 6 times our budget on players.   We were also the smallest budget in the EBEL and our first year back in the League we finished in fifth place before having financial problems this past season, which led the club to allow all its import players to find new clubs.  I am really excited to be able to recruit in a financially competitive team and bring in the right personnel to help us achieve our goals”

Fox believes he has many challenges ahead, especially with a high turn around of players expected. “We will have a lot of new faces in the dressing room next year and finding that team Identity and creating that chemistry in training camp, ready to go from the opening night, I believe will be the biggest challenge. I know here in the UK the regular season is the most important, so finding the consistency for a full season will be critical for us to achieve our goals. These are parts of the job that even though they may be challenging, I look forward to attacking from day 1”

Steelers Owner, Tony Smith was delighted to confirm Fox’s arrival “It has been a long and intense search for the right candidate. As always, this is the most important appointment and we had to be 100% sure we had the right man to lead us forward, bring us team stability and of course, build us a competitive side that will challenge for honours

“Many coaches were interviewed, all with impressive backgrounds and experience. We felt that Aaron was, however, the best fit for this position. His experience in recruiting was obviously key. He has also been involved with the coaching side of Zagreb last year and this.

“Aaron is under no illusions at the size of the job ahead of him and he will receive, as all of my previous Head Coaches have, my total support and backing”
