Marco Vallerand was the star of the show on his return to the Sky-Dome Arena on Sunday as the Steelers hit back beating the Coventry Blaze 4-1 on the road.
Goals from Martin St Pierre, Robert Dowd, Vallerand and John Armstrong were enough to claim both points.
Tomas Duba put in an outstanding goaltending display stopping 27 of the 28 shots fired on him.
Steelers started well and created chances from the get-go. It did, however, take then until the 17th minute to take the lead.
Martin St Pierre started and finished off the move, winning the face-off St Pierre set up Messrs DeLuca and Vallerand who moments later returned the puck for the Steelers #39 to score his first goal of the league campaign.
3.52 into the middle period and the Steelers had doubled their advantage, Robert Dowdy sniping one past the Phillips in the Blaze net (assisted A. Johnson and Armstrong)
Vallerand was a threat all night and deserved his goal at 31.52. The Blaze asked for a video review bit all the evidence pointed to a Steelers goal.
John Armstrong rounded off the Steelers scoring with an individual effort in the 50th minute for a 4-0 scoreline.
Duba’s shut-out was broken with just under eight minutes remaining – an Evan Bloodoff blast finding the top shelf.
The goals had ended but not the action, Nikolai Lemtyugov fighting Blaze enforcer David Broll, both players receiving 5-minute majors.
Final score: Coventry Blaze 1-4 Steelers.
