Captain Jonathan Phillips cannot wait for training camp to start on the 12th August, as he embarks on his 14th season as a Sheffield Steeler.
“The years pass by but I still get as excited as ever,” he said “We are all working hard in the gym right now with Danny (Mawer) and even getting some early ice with the guys at ICE Sheffield. I’m ready to get going though, I wouldn’t mind if we started tomorrow
“There seems a buzz about the place right now after the signings and re-signings that we have made. I think all of us are holding it in as we don’t want to get too excited and carried away. We have all been there before”
Preseason will be especially important Phillips believes as the new squad settles in “I guess a little like last year with so many new faces. Before our first Challenge Cup game on the 31st August we have three full weeks on the ice together and those three home exhibition game
“Again we have some top-quality teams coming in that will ensure we have a great test of where we are at.
“I’m looking forward to those games. You are always interested in who your linemates will be and how the new signings will adjust.
“As Captain with so many new faces, we have to ensure everyone settles in on and off the ice. Those first few days and weeks are busy, just making sure guys find the rink, the gym, the supermarket etc.
“If it started tomorrow I’d be happy”
