A hat trick from Anthony DeLuca wasn’t enough to prevent a 5-3 defeat for the Steelers in Manchester on New Year’s Day.
DeLuca was the only scorer in this end to end game that saw the Storm inflict revenge on the Steelers for Saturday’s loss in Sheffield.
Steelers were off to a blistering start with DeLuca scoring after just 59 seconds (Pitt and Martinelli)
15 seconds later DeLuca and the Steelers had their second with Pitt and Martinelli both assisting again.
Manchester, in front of a record home crowd then hit back.
First through Mike Hammond at 7.34 and then with just 19 seconds remaining in the period Dallas Ehrhardt went coast to coast with a super goal that levelled the game.
DeLuca struck again with his hat trick goal at 21.26 but that was to be the end of the Steelers scoring.
Steelers took the 3-2 lead into the final period before the Storm hit three without reply to take the points.
Dane Byers brought it back to 3-3, Linden Springer then put the Storm ahead for the first time before Ciaran Long gave Manchester some security with a 5th strike for Ryan Finnerty’s side.
