Ice skating worlds collided when ‘Disney On Ice’ took over at the FlyDSA arena late in 2019 and whilst the Steelers set up camp at Ice Sheffield there was still time to check out the work of the Disney skaters.
Representatives from the Sheffield Steelers included goalie, Tomas Duba, former NHL defenceman, Aaron Johnson, associate captain, Aaron Brocklehurst and the Golden Child, Robert Dowd.
Having trained in the morning, the four players accompanied by their families, headed back to the arena to meet the Disney On Ice team and find out just how different the skating disciplines are.
Each team had one skater mic’d up as the teams took turns to walk each other through skating drills used in a normal practice session.
For the Steelers, it was Robert Dowd who had the responsibility, whilst Disney’s very own Stasia led the skating drills first up.
Given the nature of each sport, the skatings style vary more than you would probably expect with perfecting the specific details a fine art of figure skating.
It is the exact same for playing the puck whilst skating too and whilst the guys make it look so easy, the Disney team will vouch for this not being the whole story.
The Steelers send a massive thank you to the whole of the ‘Disney On Ice’ team for a wonderful afternoon and to Instinct PR for their help in organising the event.
Congratulations on ‘100 years of magic’ and here’s to the start of a wonderful ice skating partnership.
