Robert Dowd was the hero on Saturday evening as the Steelers came from behind to beat Braehead Clan 3-2 in Glasgow.
Dowdy’s brace and a further strike from John Armstrong keep the Steelers on the tail of 2nd place Belfast with Sheffield playing back home at the Arena on Sunday against title topping Cardiff (5.00pm).
Clan led 1-0, scoring the only goal of the first period at 14.47 – Matt Keith (Rovere and Leavitt)
If the first period belonged to the Clan then the second was all Steelers as they out shot their host 15-5 – the goals followed as well.
3.54 into the period and John Armstrong had the Steelers board (assisted Sarich and Ferrara)
Steelers took the lead with just 90 seconds remaining in the middle session (Ben O’Connor, Markus Nilsson)
Dowdy opened the scoreline to 3-1 at 41.18 – (Levi Nelsona and Andrais Valdix)
Late power-plays for both sides, when John Armstrong was called for holding at 52.17 the Clan struck with captain Matt Keith scoring his second with just 6.14 left in the game.
Steelers stood tall, Moose made the big saves and the points are heading back to Sheffield.
Final score: Braehead Clan 2-3 Steelers.
