Head coach Aaron Fox described the re-signing of Tanner Eberle as “One of the most important deals of summer” after confirming that the 27-year winger would return for a fourth spell as a Steeler.
“Getting Tanner back is one of the most important deals we did this summer. His game has turned from being an energy guy that plays a physical game and chips in offensively to being a go to guy that we will expect high end production from.
“Tanner plays the game the right way and even if he is not producing, he does so many little things right that the team needs to win games.
“I’m looking forward to him picking up where he left off in the Elite Series and continue to be a dominant player for us”.
Eberle joined the Steelers in 2018 from East Coast League side Jacksonville Icemen and since arriving has played 143 games for the club scoring 55 goals and 116 points.
“I think I share the words of so many of the guys in saying how much I missed Sheffield during the last 16 months or more. Playing in the Elite Series was a small taste of near normality, it was just so good to be back with the guys playing hockey.
“There is a massive buzz being a Steeler and you can’t replace that feeling of skating out onto the arena ice and hearing the crowd cheer you on. The fans make you feel so special and the organisation looks after us so well. It’s the best place for me to play for sure”
After winning the Challenge Cup, Eberle also feels that the best days of his time with the club are ahead of him “We have improved year on year since I arrived” he said “Our last game together was the Challenge Cup win and that leaves a great taste in your mouth and an appetite to go on and win more.
“To be a part of our core group that started 2 years ago, I think that’s one of the most important things to win in this league as lots of us know what each other brings to the team so there shouldn’t be any reason not to be ready for game 1 this season”
