News from the Sheffield Steelers on Friday – the team headed off early this morning to East Midlands airport before boarding a plane to Belfast ahead of Saturday’s game against the Giants.
The team travelled without Colton Fretter who today will undergo an operation in Leicester for a sports hernia.
“It’s only right we get this problem Colton has sorted once and for all” said head coach Paul Thompson “he has been carrying this injury since the start of the year. We have tried other treatment and rest but the only way we resolve it is for an operation
“In my view Colton is one of the premium players in this league, a huge asset to us. We need him back as soon as possible and as fit as possible. I guess we will be without him for 3-5 weeks
“This weekend will be another big test for us but after all the fuss of the past few days regarding the Belfast One Direction saga it will be good to get away and just focus on the hockey and the job in hand. Belfast are a couple of guys down as we are, they have lost a few conference points and they will be well motivated to perform well on Saturday
“Only after that game do we start thinking of Manchester. One game at a time. The Storm have made a change in their line up that will help them. Any team taking them lightly will be beaten, we certainly will treat them with the respect they deserve”
