After collecting 19 of the previous 20 points the Steelers winning run came to an end in Belfast on Friday as the Giants took both points in a 4-2 victory.
Steelers had led 1-0 when Nikolai Lemtyugov opened the scoring late in the first period.
The Giants hit back in the very next shift and went into the break 2-1 up after a late power-play goal gave them the advantage.
Josef Hrabal had the sides back on level terms before the end of the second period and left it all to play for in the final session.
A tight game opened up in the final period, but the next goal was always likely to be the winner – that went to Belfast who were able to bundle the puck home from close range and had David Goodwin to thank with the final touch at 51:08. Sheffield pressed for the equaliser and, with Goodwin pulled, Elgin Pearce found the empty net five seconds before time.
Steelers head home on Saturday in time for Sunday’s huge home game against Glasgow Clan on Sunday.
