Like so many of you here tonight, the Steelers were saddened by the loss of young Haris Hussain last weekend.
Harris was known to many here inside the Arena, his Mom Caroline was the “original Caroline” and his Uncle Nick has been one of the Steelers longest and most loyal sponsors of the club.
Many of us learnt just a few short months ago of Haris’s condition as he was diagnosed with Leukaemia, many immediately tried to help by offering to donate Bone marrow through the charity DKMS UK.
Harris wasn’t just a Steelers fan, he played junior hockey over the road at Ice Sheffield and was a hugely gifted cricketer representing both club and County.
Recently Harris also became involved with the IHUK officiating programme and was described by Tom Darnell as “a passionate young official who turned up at short notice in Sheffield one week ready to jump on the ice to cover an EIHL game when we were a liney down; the full crew ended up arriving in time but Haris stuck around to soak up the experience & continued to show up for any EIHL game he could attend, alongside quickly progressing to level 6 as a linesman, to get experience & be ready to help out when the moment presented itself. RIP Haris, buddy.
Recently Haris had one last wish, to raise £10,000 before his 19thbirthday for DKMS UK, as of Monday evening that target has been smashed and stands at over £11,500
The Hardy family have been family members since the very beginning of the Steelers existence. The club sends condolences to Caroline and the whole family.
