The Sheffield Steelers side of 2018-19 is close to completion, in fact the club has just 5 slots not yet announced, though has two already signed.
Head Coach Paul Thompson is then looking for just 3 more players, 2 forwards and a defenseman.
“It’s been a tough and a long summer. We have been adamant in the people and players we have signed, we haven’t cut any corners and that philosophy will continue with the last three. We won’t be rushed. If that means we are 1 or 2 down for that first weekend of exhibition games so be it. I don’t want that to be the position and we are working around the clock to ensure that doesn’t happen but I’m not signing the wrong guy just to make the numbers up
“Right now, I’m very happy with our signings. We have brought in youth, hunger and the right amount of experience.
“As a coach with over 2000 games behind him even I am excited by the new crew. I speak and communicate with them on a daily basis and like their attitude and desire already. Training camp will be important, its key we bond and do that quickly with so many new faces.
“I’m confident that will happen. Work is well underway for the working visas for those who need them. The operations part of the business is arranging flights and housing. It’s a super busy time of the year.
“Meanwhile I continue to try and find the last three pieces of the jigsaw. Two forwards and a defenceman are still required. We have our irons in the fire of a couple of players that we have been tracking for a while and we are confident of landing three quality players for the team”
Steelers open their season in just over 4 weeks with two double home headers against top quality Swedish opposition Leksands and newly promoted SHL side Timra.
The games will all be played at Ice Sheffield.
