Sheffield Steelers booked their place in the 2018 PredictorBet Playoffs thanks to a narrow win at Nottingham Panthers.

In a hard fought first period, during which the two sides exchanged 23 shots on goal, it was Colton Fretter who drew first blood for the Steelers, beating Nottingham netminder Mike Garnett after 17 minutes.

The Panthers were quick to respond as Mike Vaskivuo equalising just 90 seconds later to leave the sides level at the first break.

A shorthanded goal from captain Jonathan Phillips edged Sheffield ahead just under five minutes into the second period.


Once more the hosts were quick to reply, Zack Phillips tying the game at 2-2 just over two minutes later.

With everything to play for entering the final frame, it was Mathieu Roy’s goal just under two minutes into the period that proved decisive, as the Steelers out shot their hosts 14-6 through the final 20 minutes of action.
