A terrific night for the Steelers with a 5-2 road victory over the Nottingham Panthers, the Steelers 5th straight win against their arch enemy.
In front of over 6500 fans, the Steelers ended up comfortable victors with goals from Jordan Owens (2) Evan McGrath, Tom Zanoski and Ryan Martinelli. Jackson Whistle was again the star of the show making 37 saves.
Steelers were ahead after just 5.21 when Evan McGrath finished off a lovely wrap around move, assisted Martinelli and Phillips.
Mark Hurtabise levelled the score 3 minutes later and that’s how the score remained until the end of the first period.
The second period belonged to the Steelers and more so Jordan Owens as he netted a brace.
Steelers were back ahead at 27.29 on the power play (assisted McGrath and Pitt)
Owens then grabbed his 2nd and the Steelers 3rd 53 seconds later, this time with Jonathan Phillips and John Armstrong assisting.
Eric Neiley set up Tom Zanoski with just over 5 minutes remaining to give the Steelers a 4th and some daylight against a Panthers side that was throwing everything they had Jackson Whistle’s way.
Stewart scored a 2nd for the Panthers late on and with Aaron Johnson serving 2 minutes for delaying the game, the Panthers did pull their goalie for the extra attacker in the final minute.
Ryan Martinelli stood up and fired into the empty net for the final goal of the night.
Panthers 2- 5 Steelers.
