Sheffield Steelers can confirm that forward, Eric Meland will be departing the club having played through the past four weeks with a number of injuries.
Eric approached head coach, Aaron Fox about the possibility of returning home having struggled to recover to full fitness.
With defenceman Aaron Johnson and James Bettauer very close to a return, Meland made the decision with the club’s best interest at heart.
An emotional Meland thanked the amazing Steelers fan base for the incredible reception given following the conclusion of Sunday afternoon’s game.
The Steelers were pleased to hear that Eric would be keeping in shape and should the club require injury cover through the stretch, had agreed to come back to Sheffield and remain on the club’s roster.
James Bettauer will take over the ‘swing guy’ role having previously done so during his spell in the DEL.
