Head coach Aaron Fox has confirmed some personnel changes in the Steelers line-up ahead of this weekend’s games in Manchester and home to Cardiff Devils.
Forward Martin St. Pierre will be leaving the club with immediate effect whilst Swedish forward Lucas Sandström will be joining the side later this week.
Fox said “We brought Martin in on a short-term deal with both sides having options to continue the contract at this time. After discussing it, both sides mutually agreed it would be better to go in different directions.
“We have decided to replace him with a gritty high energy two way forward in Lucas Sandström. Lucas will be joining the team immediately. He has a nice scoring touch and should bring some much needed two-way play and energy to our group”.
Sandström has never played outside his native Sweden and joins the Steelers after playing 506 league and playoff games in the Allsvenskan, the last two seasons with Almtuna IS.
Fox continued, referring the injury situation with player-assistant coach Aaron Johnson saying:
“We are still in the market for injury cover for Aaron as well. We want to do our due diligence on a couple candidates and make sure we find the right guy that can come in and help us get better”
Steelers next home game is on Sunday 29th September Vs. Cardiff Devils at the Fly DSA (Sheffield) Arena. Face Off 4.00pm
