Overtime Defeat for The Steelers in Dundee

The Steelers will bring back a point from Scotland after an overtime defeat to the Dundee Stars.

The Stars scoring their OT PP goal with 1.45 seconds remaining in the additional period through Calves Ozols.

Steelers had led 1-0 at the end of the second period after a bizarre goal from Brandon Whistle

The story of this one is below.

With The Rok between the pipes The Steelers welcomed back Martin Latal to the line up for this huge game in Dundee.

It was an even start with both teams cautious in their approach.

Steelers thought they had opened the scoring through Sointu but upon review it was judged that he had kicked the puck past Preece in the Dundee goal.

A period of penalty kill work for Aaron’s Fox’s men with first Antonin Boruta being called for tripping. Shortly after the Steelers had killed that penalty Matias Sointu was called for holding the stick, 17 seconds after and Kevin Shculze was assessed 2 for holding and a long 103 second kill lay ahead.

It was a trendies kill by The Steelers with Rok making strong saves but the team in front of him outstanding.

Steelers had an early Powerplay at 21.18 with Dow sitting out 2 minutes for boarding. As much as the boys pushed the Stars backed by net minder Preece stood tall and Dundee killed well.

Huge hit on Martin Latal from Kyle Haas was called a 5 minute penalty for boarding. Vojtech Polak stepped in and was assessed 2 for roughing. After a short 4 on 4 period The Steelers had a 3 minute Powerplay and did everything but score.

Then a crazy situation with Dundee on the front foot they thought they had scored but it seemed the puck hit the side netting as the puck moved to centre ice Brandon Whistle spotted the Stars goalie out of his crease and fired into the net with the referee on the ice giving the goal.

Then a review as it was claimed the Stars goal should stand and that the puck had gone through the net.

It was a nervous couple of minutes but after checking the video the Stars goal was ruled out and The Steelers goal stood.

A late second period Powerplay to the Stars with Mosey being called for a high stick, Dundee start the final period with 52 seconds remaining on the one man advantage.

Whilst The Steelers would kill that one man advantage they weren’t to be lucky later in the period after Robert Dowd was called for interference at 47,.15

Dillon Lawrence jumped on a rebound to tie the game 1-1 at 49.04

The game would end that way after 60 minutes and into overtime we would go for a second night running.

83 seconds into OT and Evan Mosey was called for Holding and with just 8 seconds remaining on that penalty Kelvin Ozols scored with a Powerplay goal to claim both points for the Stars.

So it ends a 2 point weekend for The Steelers after a pair of OT defeats to the Dundee Stars.

Final Score on Sunday: Dundee Stars 2-1 Steelers after OT
