FATS LADS RAISE £43,000 IN PARIS CYCLE RIDE
A year ago Pete Everitt, an Account Director at Steelers sponsor, Purpose Media, and four pals were self-proclaimed ‘Fat Lads from Dore’ and were cycling novices. Yet, they’ve just cycled 323 miles, climbed 12,000 feet and spent 25 hours over 4 days in the saddle to reach Paris and raise £43,000 in aid of The Children’s Hospital Charity.
Spurred on by watching the Tour de France, the team decided to purchase road bikes, get fit, and use the ‘Fat Lads from Dore’ nickname as a fund raising mantra.
Commenting, Pete said, “We prepared for the trip with several demanding training rides including riding from Morecambe to Bridlington in April this year, but this was a much bigger challenge as none of us has spent four consecutive days in the saddle. We’re absolutely delighted at the incredible support and generosity so far and we would love to reach £50,000 so we can provide two rooms at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.”
Pete and the ‘Fat Lads’ finished their final stage with a sprint up the Champs Elyse, just 24 hours before Chris Froome won the 2015 Tour De France, and completed their ride at the Eiffel Tower.
Money raised is going to provide a new bedroom for young patients at the Children’s Hospital which treats patients from across the North Derbyshire and Sheffield regions. If you would like to help them towards their £50,000 goal please visit: www.justgiving.com/Fatladsfromdore.
