The Steelers will have a new face in the line-up for this weekends games against the Nottingham Panthers in the Challenge Cup.
Head coach Aaron Fox has moved quickly to sign injury cover for Aaron Johnson and Jonas Liwing by bringing in 31-year-old Czech defensemen, Marek Trončinský.
“Marek is a D who has played well at the highest levels in Europe and felt like it was an easy decision once conversations started with his representation,” said Fox.
“He can play a physical gritty defensive game and also skates well and has some offensive upside as he led all D-men in scoring in the Czech Extraliga in 17-18.
“He should help us in all situations and felt like he was the best overall d-man that had been offered. I’m looking forward to getting him this week and ready for the weekend”.
It is expected that Trončinský will arrive in Sheffield on Thursday, in time to skate with his new teammates ahead of the two crunch cup games.
With 93 KHL and 575 Czech Extraliga games behind him, Trončiský arrives in Sheffield with a wealth of experience.
In 2017-18 Trončinský had the most assists and points by any defenceman in the Czech top division.
