Another great night with the SSSC at the Royal Victoria Hotel as fans and players celebrated with the annual awards night.

A packed room of excited fans joined the entire Steelers team for a fun night before the serious business of the play-offs comes our way at the weekend.

Martin Latal scooped two awards including the SSSC player of the year.

Robert Dowd and Marco Vallerand also claimed multiple awards with Vallerand picking up the coveted Players Player of the Year

The Crown Plaza’s main ball room looked its best as fans arrived for the night.

First of all they had some voting to do with forms on the table for The Steelers goal of the year. The video was played out and fans placed their crosses in the appropriate box … The voting was close with Sam Jones just missing out on the first award of the night.

The winner was Adrian Saxrud Danielsen…

The Man of Steeler award is for grit and determination in a Steelers uniform.

Presented by Paul Blackburn, the man who made the incredible trophy, the award was jointly presented to Sam Jones and Kevin Schulze who both played the most games for The Steelers this season.

The Niki Donnelly award is always presented for services to the community, Jean Owen presented this prize to Martin Latal for his fund raising and support of his family and others during the Ukraine crisis.

Martin then stayed on stage as we presented flowers, our support and thanks to SSSC member Adele Hague who was recently awarded the BEM (British Empire Medal) for all of her outstanding work at The Children’s Hospital

The Brimble Roach award was named after the two founding members of the SSSC, Tim Brimble and Hayley Roach and is presented to those who have served the club so well.

No better winner then than Captain Jonathan Phillips who collected his award from committee member Ray Fryer.

The Champagne Moment, that moment that excited us and that we will remember.

The winner was Robert Dowd for his 267th goal as a Steelers, breaking the EIHL era’s record of the great It’s Jeff Legue.

All of the junior members of the SSSC – The Kids of Steel – voted for their player of the year.

Marco Vallerand was their favourite and he scooped the prize.

On the day that Jonathan Phillips, Robert Dowd, Davey Phillips and Sam Jones were named in the GB squad for the World Championships, the British play of the year was always going to be a hard fought award to win.

Robert Dowd stepped up to win the prize.

SSSC members who travel on the road always vote for their player of the game, at the end of the year the votes are added up for the Away player of the year

This years winner was The Rok, Stojanovic.

The votes were counted for the SSSC player of the year, always a big moment for the Supporters Club who do an amazing job for the club during the 12 months of the year.

The 2022 SSSC Player of the year was Martin Latal

In his post game speech Latal said how much he had enjoyed Sheffield, he thanked the fans for all their support of him and his family and even hinted that he wouldn’t mind spending a couple of more years here …. was that a hint?

Head coach Aaron Fox then stepped up to present his award as coaches player of the year.

Foxy gave some honourable mentions to the likes of Stojanovic, Vallerand and Kevin Schulze but said his award would be to Robert Dowd.

For the players the big award is the Players Player of the Year

An award voted for by their team mates. Captain Jonathan Phillips stepped up to make the presentation.

This years winner not only led the side in scoring but played injured and hurt.

The captain and coach before him told the story of him returning early, maybe too early from injury to help the team in their final push.

That of course was Marco Vallerand.

The awards were over but the auctions were to follow

Great funds were raised for the SSSC with a special 267 signed from of Robert Dowd, a signed Brandon Whistle shirt and a fully signed Steelers shirt.

The winners all having their photos taken with Dowdy, Brandon and captain Jonathan Phillips.
