Stars Knock Out The Steelers in 3rd Period Comeback

The Dundee Stars have knocked The Steelers out of the play offs after a 4-3 defeat in Scotland.

Steelers had led 3-0 a minute into the second period but penalties at the end of the middle session gave the Stars a way back into the game

Stars tied the series with 7 minutes to go and then wrapped it up in the final 65 seconds after a Sam Jones slashing minor had given Dundee a late power-play

Aaron Fox took his side to Scotland for the 2nd leg of the play off quarter final against Dundee Stars 1-0 down after Saturday’s defeat.

Rok Stojanovic was given the start for the game – Traversa kept his place with Polak still out injured.

In a hard hitting and tight first period it is The Steelers that lead 2-0 following a brace from Marco Vallerand.

With Kyle Haas sitting for 2 minutes after an incident with Sam Jones The Steelers took advantage of their first power-play of the night.

Dowd and Schulze combined well to set up Vallerand for the one timer at 9.59 to tie the series 1-1

Steelers killed a hooking minor on Travers at 11.47 and took that momentum forward.

It was Vallerand again, this time from close range that doubled The Steelers lead at 14.22 (Dowd and Eberle)

Steelers had the perfect start to the second period when Martin Latal burst through the Dundee side and scored after just 39 seconds to extended The Steelers lead to 3-0 (3-1 on aggregate)

Steelers killed a Jonathan Phillips slashing minor at 29.56

Davey Phillips then went to the box at 36.52 but was quickly joined by John Armstrong on a 2 plus 2 high sticking call.

Moments into the 5-3 Powerplay Kalzis Olzols blasted home to make it 1-3 (2-3)Stars remained on the power-play through until the end of the period.

They will start the 3rd period with a one man advantage for 88 seconds.

Steelers killed the Stars Powerplay and when five on five looked in control for the majority of the play. Both goalies played their part making big saves as the play went end to end.

With just 7.34 remaining Bengtsson scored to make it 2-3 – thus 3-3 on aggregate.

With the game looking like it was going into overtime the Stars broke and Sam Jones was given a slashing minor at 58.29

26 Seconds later and Bengtsson scored his second of the period to tie the game 3-3 and give the Stars a goal advantage.

From the re-start The Steelers Pulled Stojanovic but moments later Bengtsson scored his hat trick goal for a 4-3 Stars victory – 5-3 on aggregate

Stars join Belfast, Guildford and the winner of the Clan – Devils series in next weekends play off finals in Nottingham.
