Steelers 3-1 Manchester Storm

On an emotional night in Sheffield the Steelers delivered for Vicki Thomas with a 3-1 home victory against the Manchester Storm.

Steelers made heavy weather of beating the Storm, for large parts of the game they dominated against Ryan Finnerty’s side but just couldn’t put enough daylight between the sides to make it a more comfortable night.

Steelers would go on to claim the Challenge Cup points with goals from Eric Meland, Robert Dowd and an empty net strike from Marco Vallerand.

As the team heads to Dundee on Sunday it looks like they will do so without both Aaron Johnson and Aaron Brocklehurst who picked up injuries during the game.

Steelers were off to a great start scoring the only goals of the first period.

In the 13th minute, Eric Meland picked up on the pass from John Armstrong for 1-0

Then on the power-play, Robert Dowd was johnny on the spot after great work from Ben O’Connor at 16.25 for a 2-0 end of period scoreline.

Mario Puskarich scored the only of the second period in the 24th minute to make the game a lot closer than it should have been.

Whilst the Steelers created more chances in the final period the scoreline meant that it was a tight atmosphere inside the arena.

Marco Vallerand would give us all breathing space with his empty-net goal in the final minute.

Final score: Steelers 3-1 Manchester Storm.

The night ended with an Eddy from starting goalie Tomas Duba after his first home start of the season.
