Steelers 5-2 Fife Flyers to top the league standings

Steelers remain top of the Elite League following a 5-2 home victory against Fife Flyers.

In a close encounter at the Utilita Arena Sheffield the Steelers finally broke down the Flyers with five different scorers finding the back of the net.

After a dominant first period which saw the Steelers outshoot Fife 19-7 it was only a 1-1 scoreline.

Robert Dowd finnished well at 17.59 on the power-play with Mosey and Connolly assisting.

With the ice tilted the Steelers way it was a suprise to all in the Arena when Craig Peacock fired home to level just 42 seconds

There was only one goal to report in the middle session, Anthony DeLuca deflecting Saxrud-Danielsen’s shot, it was a goal that released the tension around the building after such domination.


Jonas Emmerdahl took a 5 minute penalty for checking Anthony DeLuca from behind 2.50 into the final period and that 5 minute power-play certainly turned the game the Steelers way.

First Evan Mosey poked home at 43.555

Then Martin Latal added a 4th for the Steelers at 45.30, both PP goals.


Steelers would stretch the lead to 5-1 at 49.21 when Marco Vallerand scored with Connolly and Dowd assisting.

With Saxrud-Danielsen off for high sticks the Flyers scored a consolation goal at 55.29 when matt Carter finnished nicely on Barry Brust between the Steelers pipes.

Flyers man of the match was Shayne Owen whilst Marco Vallerand took the honours for the Steelers.

Final score: Steelers 5-2 Fife Flyers.
