Cormier’s Game Winner Earns the Steelers the Points Against Latal’s Flyers
It took the Steelers two periods to get into gear but when they did, the Fife Flyers had now answers and with five different scorers Aaron Fox’s side cruised to victory.
Fox kept the same side that beat Cardiff at the weekend, with the addition of Finlay Ulrik.
It was Martin Latal’s first visit back to the arena since leaving the club 18 months ago.
First Period.
It was a slow start for the Steelers and the Flyers took full advantage scoring after just 3.18 when Phelix Martineau netted.
Steelers were back on level terms at 7.19 – Marco Vallerand was slashed on a breakaway with the referee calling a penalty shot – Vallerand with his custom move scoring past Shane Owen.
Late power-play for the Steelers with Delmas off for tripping, chances but no success and the period ended 1-1
Second Period
Deja vu for the Steelers with the Flyers taking an early middle period lead, with Martineau scoring his second 61 seconds in.
Steelers would hit back at 27.53 when Mikko Juusola converted with Watling and Saucerman assisting.
With the Flyers taking a minor penalty for delaying the game, the Steelers had more power-play time before the period end, but it remained 2-2 at the break.
Third Period.
Steelers turn to score early as Dominic Cormier picked up on a broken play to slot home for the eventual game winner at 40.47 (Whistle and Vallerand)
Security for the Steelers at 51.33 when Finlay Ulrik scored from a rebound off a shot from Patrick Watling
Fife failed on their only power-play of the night when Marco Vallerand sat for 2 minutes (tripping) at 52.55
With net minder Owen pulled, Patrick Watling found the empty net with assists to Brandon Whistle and Mikko Juusola to secure the 5-2 scoreline.
