Connolly Joins the Steelers, and hooks up with an old friend as well.
Steelers GM and Head Coach Aaron Fox has confirmed that the Steelers have signed high scoring centre Brendan Connolly from the Glasgow Clan.
Connolly top scored for the Clan last season with 31 goals (and 65 points) in just 58 games, the year before when with Belfast he led the Giants with 73 points (27 goals)
“Brendan is a guy who has proven that he can really produce at this level” said Fox “The intangibles he brings on a nightly basis is what I love most about his game. He plays on the edge and is super competitive
“He’s one of those guys that really cares about winning and will do whatever is asked of him to achieve that. I think playing with that emotion and energy is something this team lacked last year. He leaves everything on the ice and I think our fans will fall in love with that part of his game.
“He can play multiple positions and also had some really good chemistry with Vallerand back in Greenville a few years ago, they were one and two in scoring that season”
Brendan Connolly turned professional in 2009 after spending four years at Ferris State University. In the seven seasons that followed Brendan scored 372 league and play off points in 380 games in the East Coast League whilst also playing 21 AHL games.
Europe beckoned in 2015 and a split season, 36 games in Fehervar (Austria) and 18 league and play off games SC Riessersee (Germany).
In 2016-17 Connolly lead Rungsted Seier Capitals in both goals and points (20+28=48) in the Dainish Elite league. When that season ended he headed to Belfast to commence an exciting Elite League career in the UK.
Now after successful years with the Giants and the Clan it’s time for the Steelers.
Connolly confirmed that “Sheffield was always on my radar” after agreeing terms with Fox and credited the Steelers boss with making the move happen “the way Aaron told me of his plans for the team excited me” he said “he explained my role and what he expected, I liked that he saw me as an influential player”
The thought of playing with Marco Vallerand was something that interested Connolly “when I saw Marco had signed in Sheffield I thought, that’s a good signing for them. Of course, it was a pull to come here, we have had chemistry before and there is no reason why we won’t again”
When asked what he would bring to the Steelers Brendan said “I bring energy and passion I guess. I’m an in your face type of player. I can play in all situations but throughout my career, I’ve been considered a goal scorer”
Brendan Connolly will make his Steelers debut at ICE Sheffield on Saturday (and Sunday) the 17th (and 18th) of August against HK Poprad – all tickets just £10 for this pre season double header.
