Steelers fans to contribute to the Fir Vale Food Bank

The Steelers and community parters Costain are again this season asking Steelers fans to contribute to the Fir Vale Food Bank that is supported by Robert Dowd.

Costain, as you will see from their media release below, is supporting the Food Bank in a big way. Earlier in the week the Steelers visited Costain and helped load food for delivery.

Steelers commercial manager Mike O’Connor said “This is a huge contribution that Costain are making to the food bank, we can’t thank them enough”

Steelers forward Robert Dowd has supported the Fir Vale Food Bank for over 18 months now “you can’t beleive that since first visiting the Food Bank that it has come this far” he said “first the fans did a fantastic job last season and now the clubs sponsors are getting involved. How cool is that.

“This Saturday see’s us back in the arena and that means I will once again be appealing to the fans to assist once more by bringing tins of food. Add this to the great contribution of food that Costain are donating and we will once again make a huge difference to so many people”

Another big food parcel sent to Fir Vale Food Bank.

Costain Ltd, the principal contractor working on the M1 Motorway Project, and Sheffield Steelers new Community Partner for the 2014/2015 season has today dispatched a significant food parcel to Fir Vale Food Bank on the back of one of its recent site safety initiatives.

In excess of 200,000 hours of work have now been worked on the scheme without a reportable loss time accident. Not an easy task given that Costain currently has in excess of 18 miles in each direction of the M1 under development.

All hours worked, without any loss of working time, activate monthly food deliveries and it is hoped that Fir Vale Food Bank will benefit greatly from this over the forthcoming months.

This month, in accordance with a matrix that was previously agreed Costain has doubled the value of the parcel.

Under this particular initiative Costain hope to work 1,000,000 hours safely and without incident.

Costain said “We are committed to health and safety as a company and we have ongoing safety campaigns across our operations nationally. We are delighted to be involved with the Fir Vale Food Bank, and with the assistance of Sheffield Steelers’ and Robert Dowd we sincerely hope that Fir Vale continue to benefit from the campaign”.
