Steelers Game in Belfast on Friday Cancelled.

Steelers Game in Belfast on Friday Cancelled.

The Sheffield Steelers have this afternoon been advised that their game on Friday against the Belfast Giants at the SSE Arena has been cancelled.

One Direction, whose concert in Belfast was cancelled at short notice last night has been re-scheduled to take place on Friday evening.

The Steelers were due to play the Giants on both Friday and Saturday before returning home to Sheffield to take on the Manchester Storm at the Sheffield Arena on Sunday. The Saturday night game in Belfast against the Giants is still going ahead as scheduled.

At this time no date for a re-scheduled game in Belfast has been decided.

Steelers’ Operations Director Shaun Smith said, “at the moment we have no further information other than what we have issued above. We are disappointed that the game isn’t proceeding not only for ourselves but for the many fans who have already booked their travel, hotel and game night tickets.

“We certainly aren’t happy with the late postponement. We appreciate as well as anyone when things out of your control can sometimes happen that cause games to be cancelled. We believe this is a commercial decision taken by the arena in Belfast that will certainly inconvenience, disrupt and hurt financially both the club and our supporters. We await further communication with Belfast in due course.”

Club owner Tony Smith said “this is unacceptable and not the end of the matter”
