Steelers Swoop for the Rupert Brothers.
The Sheffield Steelers have signed identical twins Matt and Ryan Rupert from the Indy Fuel in the ECHL.
The 24 year old pair complete the Steelers forward roster with Ryan a centreman and Matt a winger.
“I’m dead excited to land the pair of them” said head coach Paul Thompson “they tick so many boxes for what we were looking for. They are young, talented, skate extremely well and play with some jam
“Ryan has over 150 AHL games under his belt – an excellent centre who seems to win the vast majority of face off’s he takes. He sees the ice really well and makes some great plays.
“Matt out scored his brother last year, he has a good eye for goal and like Ryan also sees the ice well
“I see them playing together, they want to play together. They are identical twins so we will start with them as line mates.
“Both brothers played together at London Knights, they come from a good club and good stock and I’ve been impressed watching them and speaking to them about what is required here. Both boys were attracting a lot of interest around Europe, to land the pair is an added advantage.
“We wanted to bring the age level down but we didn’t want to lose the quality. I don’t think we have in our other signings and I don’t think we have with these two either
“Not we turn to our last signing of this really busy summer, we have a target and we don’t want to compromise. We could sign a handful of players this afternoon but we want the right one, the one we have chased for a while now. Fingers crossed”
