Steelers Win To Remain 5 Points Clear – Steelers 3 – 1 Blaze

The Steelers maintained their 5 point lead at the top of the table with a comfortable win over the Coventry Blaze tonight at the Utilita Sheffield Arena.

Wearing the first ever #38 for the Sheffield Steelers, Tommaso Traversa made his debut tonight with the Steelers only missing longer term injured players Brendan Connolly and Adrian Saxrud-Danielsen.

Barry Brust was also back in the line up and was backed up by Rok Stojanovic. Barry would go on to have a sterling night between the pipes and pick up the Man of the Match award.

It remained goalless after the first period, with the period being littered with penalties and neither team being able to settle into their groove although it would have been fair to say that the Blaze had the better of the period.

The Steelers went on to dominate the game from the start of the second period and took a one goal lead into the third period.

Vallerand sent the Bears flying onto the ice after taking his time on the powerplay, picking his spot and firing high glove side on Motte. The goal assisted by Robert Dowd and Kevin Schulze at 38.02.

In the third, the Steelers extended their lead to three before the Blaze pulled one back.

The second Steelers goal coming at 41.33 as Armstrong found himself in front of Motte’s crease and got the perfect tip from an Evan Mosey blast. Tanner Eberle also picking up an assist.

The third goal came at 47.49, a second of the night for Marco Vallerand as Vojtech Polak found Vallerand at the back post and he made no mistake with the open net with Latal also picking up an assist.

Dillon Eichstadt put an end to a possible shut out by Barry Brust at 57.05 when he found himself with the puck after a big scramble and he was able to put it over Brust’s glove while he was down on the ice. Alex Marsh getting the first assist on the play.

The Steelers now head to the Skydome tomorrow night to take on the Blaze in a return fixture where the Steelers will look to continue their impressive run and maintain a gap at the top of the table.

We then have a weekend away in Belfast before we return to the Utilita Sheffield Arena against the Glasgow Clan on Wednesday 22nd December.

See you there Sheffield!
