The Story of Sunday Night

The Story of Sunday Night

Steelers remained top of the Elite League following a 4-2 home victory against the Dundee Stars.

Tanner Eberle was the Star of the Show but there was so much more going on Sunday so lets take a look at the night in more detail.

The Steelers were led onto the ice by 6 year old mascot Thomas Andrews.

Thomas plays for the Steelers Ball Hockey Team as well as Bradford’s U9’s. His favourite players are Kieran Brown and Jordan Griffin with both of the guys there for a special celebration photo.

Our match sponsors were RSH Group and the two Captains Matt Marquardt and Jonathan Phillips were joined on the ice by Rob & Ellie Hands with Josh Priest for the ceremonial puck drop.

Steelers were off to a flyer of a start with Marco Vallerand scoring in the 12th minute.

A little controversy at 12.47 when Robert Dowd made it 2-0

Dundee claimed Dowd had scored with a “High Stick” and the referees went to the video to double-check.

The goal stood, the Steelers led by 2 and Robert Dowd’s point took him into 4th place in the all-time Steelers scorers behind Ron Shudra, Steve Nemeth and Jeff Legue.

It was all Steelers, Tanner Eberle scored a lovey 3rd, the eventual game-winner at 13.58 sliding the puck past Alex Leclerc.

The story of the second period was a lot different with the Stars fighting hard back into the game.

At 21.40 Brett Stovin pulled a goal back from close range (3-1)

With 13 minutes remaining in the final period the Stars struck again, this time on the power-play, Elgin Pearce the scorer.

The Arena was now a little nervous but they didn’t have to wat too long for some comfort. Tanner Eberle thought he had his second after Ben O’Connor set up Eric Meland for the shot. The goal was awarded to Eberle for the redirection but later changed back to Meland.

That was the way the game ended, a 4-2 victory which ensured the Steelers remained top of the league.

Cardiff did beat Nottingham to close the gap but Glasgow went down at home to the Coventry Blaze.

RSH Group were back out on to the Ice to present the “Bradfield Brewary” man of the match awards.

First up was the Dundee Stars goalie Alex Leclerc.

It was another “Big Night” on the SIV Live sponsored 50-50 draw.

The lucky winners was Margaret Bairstow – her cash was presented by the Man of the night Tanner Eberle.

The Sheffield Window Centre Sponsored “Shirt Off Your Back Raffle winner was Andy Siddons and Jodie Greaves.

They chose the game worn shirt of Nikolai Lemtyugov

RSH were then back on the ice for the Steeler man of the match award. Rob, Ellie and Paul presented their prize to Tanner Eberle.

Tanner’s next duty was the “Eddy” and he didn’t let us down.

Together with Anthony Deluca and Marco Vallerand the trio put on a hunting display with Tanner the shooter and poor old Marco the victim.

It was a great night and all the fans went home happy after the 4-2 win and the great entertainment of another night with the Steelers.

It was over for some put not all.

Ian Bland was the lucky winner of the “Signed Programme Competition”

Cole Shudra was on hand to have a photo taken post game with Ian, his Mom Doreen and Carol Ledger.

Young Brian Forster also had a night to remember as he hooked up with Robert Dowd after the game.

Brian and his Father Andrew made their wasy down to the Steelers bench for a chat and a picture.

The best thing is, we get to do it all over again on Saturtday against the Coventry Blaze.
