The Sheffield Steelers entertained over 7,300 fans on Wednesday evening in their final round-robin game of the Challenge Cup campaign.
The game was the latest of the Steelers special £5 all ticket promotion games and what a success the night was.
During warm up the Steelers two mascots Evie-Mae Tindale and Heidi Dunn hooked up with Robert Dowd for some advice and a photo.
We were sponsored by “Jump Inc” on the night and David Boote, accompanied by Mark and Cameron Poole were out for the ceremonial puck drop with the two team captains.
There was only one goal to report in the first period.
Captain Jonathan Phillips the scorer off a lovely feed from Tanner Eberle.
Steelers took control in the middle period scoring four unanswered goals.
Nikolai Lemtyugov was to score his first of three on the night to double the Steelers advantage (2-0), Michael Davies would make it 3-0 at 25.23 and Big John Armstrong would take the scoreline to 4-0 at 26.21
The big incident of the night came in the 34th minute when Manchester and former Nottingham forward Mathieu Gagnon clashed with Michael Davies.
Gagnon was still steaming over an earlier incident involving Davies and Storm goalie Matt Ginn
The Manchester forward was awarded a game misconduct and a match penalty as he attacked Davies, who himself collected a game misconduct.
Gagnon was to leave the game through the far doors at the Arena after throwing his helmet in the direction of the team benches.
Former Steelers player and head coach Ryan Finnerty was involved in a heated exchange with the Steelers bench
Sporting a black eye for the occasion, forward Anthony DeLuca would get a very well deserved goal, as he skated around the Strom goal and put the puck past Ginn on the wraparound.
Lemtyugov scored his second at the start of the final period to give the Steelers a 6-0 advantage.
Manchester rallied round and hit back with two goals of their own. Cody Thompson (49.36) and Tyson Fawcett (52.24) made it 6-2.
Steelers weren’t done and rounded the night off with two further goals.
Nikolai completed his hat trick at 58.25
With no Marco Vallerand in the Steelers line up head coach Aaron Fox had drafted in Kieran Brown and it would the young man from Bradford who would complete the Steelers coring on the night.
Cole Shudra and James Battauer would assist on the goal with just 16 seconds remaining and for a final score of Steelers 8-2 Manchester Storm.
Our friends from Jump Inc were back on the Ice for the Bradfield Brewery “Man of the Match Awards”
Tyson Fawcett collect the Storm’s award from Jump Inc
It was a huge 50-50 on Wednesday (sponsored by SIV Live)
The lucky winner was Abbey Rhodes and she asked Robert Dowd to present her with the cash prize.
With 28 Halloween shirts up for grabs on the shirt raffle, our sellers were massively busy all night.
Daviel Revil one first prize and chose the game-worn shirt of Dowdy
Time for the Steelers (Bradfield Brewey) man of the match awards and our friends from Jump Inc were back out to present the main prize.
With a hat-trick, Nikolai Lemtyugov, of course, was the only choice for the main prize.
This of course meant that Nikolai would have to carry out the “Eddy” and once again he didn’t let us down.
With the help of his team mates Nikolai had hidden a special mask that he would put on, and then throw into the crowd.
One more award was to be presented.
Nigel King was the winner of the Steelers “Lucky Programme Competition”
Aaron Brocklehurst had signed the programme earlier and he was on hand to have a chat and a photo with Nigel.
At the end of the night Alex, Jonathan and Simmsey then interviewed Aaron Fox and a few others from the Steelers in the latest edition of the clubs Podcast
