“Valdix Makes Us Better – That’s Why He is Back” Says Thompson
The Steelers finally got their man as Paul Thompson confirmed the re-signing of 32 year old Andreas Valdix.
“He is worth the wait” confirmed Thompson after agreeing a new one year deal with the skilled centre “it’s been a long summer of negotiations that I’m delighted has now been concluded”
Valdix missed 20 games last season yet still impressed coaches and team mates with his play centring what many believed was the EIHL’s most dynamic line alongside Levi Nelson and Robert Dowd.
“He is quality” continued Thompson “he has the ability to make those around him better
“Andreas had two hand injuries last season which curtailed his year a little. We expect him to come back and kick on, we are excited that he is returning. He is a premium player.
“His skating is at the Elite level, his defensive play is very strong and as we saw last year he has an offensive upside as well. He is an intelligent and skilled forward”
Valdix scored 10 goals and 37 points in 36 games in his first year with the Steelers and was a major reason behind the clubs play off success in April
“I had a great year in Sheffield” he said, “winning the championship in Nottingham was a fantastic feeling. I’m so happy we have been able to put this deal together for another year.
“The injury was frustrating but it’s a pitfall of the game, sometimes sticks break hands. I’m fully recovered and excited to jump on the plane and head back to Sheffield. It’s not long now.
“The aim is to win, win the league, that’s the big one in Sheffield. We came close last season and want to go better this coming year”
