Steelers two Challenge Cup victories over Nottingham last weekend have given the team great confidence says forward Robert Dowd.
“I actually thought the performance against Cardiff was a good one and inside the room, we all knew there were many positives to take” he said. “We carried that on last weekend and the two wins, especially Saturday’s, just proved that
“We have many new signings, we’ve had injuries, they aren’t excuses they are facts and sometimes it takes a few weeks. We’ve seen in training though that this team is a good one and we are now showing that at weekends against good sides.
“This weekend is one of the toughest in the calendar. Two road trips in Scotland is always tough but we head north in great spirits. Hopefully Arron Brocklehurst will be back and that gives us another great body in the line up. Marek will have had a full week with us and I thought he showed up really big for us in the two Panthers games
“Whilst guys have out hurt everyone has stepped up, none more so than Cole (Shudra) and we were are delighted when he scored that really important goal for us on Sunday.
“Cole has been solid and has worked as hard as anyone over the summer and these first few weeks – his reaction to contributing the way he did was priceless
“Word around the club is that half of Sheffield are heading North, I saw a tweet from Fife the other day saying the away tickets were almost sold-out so we know when we skate out the reaction from the fans will be great
“Both Fife and Dundee are tough barns to go to. Gone are the days that you would head to Scotland for a three in three and think there is 6 points. Every game in Fife is a battle, emptional and physical and then you head to Dundee, over the last year since Omar went there they have been excellent.
“We almost shot ourselves in the foot earlier this season when we went up there, we came away with an overtime win but we had a mad couple of minutes that almost cost us. We will have learned from that”
“These next 10 or so games will define our season, we have to take as many points as possible so when all the cup games have ended and the league settles down we are right there in the race, fighting for those top spots.
“That starts now, this week in training and then we take that into this weekend. It will be the first time in Fife for many and there will be no better experience than marking their first game there than with a win.
