It was the Night of Alex Graham’s life – he scored his first professional goal for the Steelers, had over 6,500 people on their feet and was our man of the match.
But it wasn’t just Alex who had a great night on Saturday as the Steelers entertained the Fife Flyers – we all did.
The night was courtesy of our match Sponsors Eden Training Solutions, so a huge “Thank you” to them.
Before the game started it was a big night for young Rory Smith (who is 8 today – Happy Steelers Birthday Rory)
Rory went out for warm-up with the team and also had his photo taken with Captain Jonathan Phillips.
Then he collected the puck from the match officials and presented it to John, Tracy and Isaac from Eden Training Solutions. He stuck around for the ceremonial puck drop.
James Livingston of the Flyers joined Jonathan Phillips for this one.
Game on and the Steelers trailed 2-0 at the end of the first period. Paul Crowder (below) scoring the first goal and Danick Gauthier doubling the visitors’ advantage.
The second period saw a 5 goal come back as the Steelers took over the game.
Aaron Johnson scored his second of the season to get the boys going at 26.11. It was the start of the floodgates opening.
25 Seconds later and the Steelers were level, Janne Kolehmainen scoring at 26.36
Nikolai Lemtyugov put the Steelers 3-2 ahead at 29.02
The Steelers wagon was rolling and soon it would be 4-2
Aaron Johnson with his 3rd point of the period assisting on Tanner Eberle’s goal.
The 5th would come before the end of the period.
Anthony DeLuca once again on the scoreboard at 35.26
It was more of the same in the final period with the Steelers once again scoring three unanswered goals.
DeLuca was on fire notching his second of the night at 48.46 (Hrabal and Troncinsky assisting) Steelers led 6-2
Davey Phillips set up a Brendan Connolly for a breakaway at 5.1.56 – the Steelers forward didn’t miss going forehand – backhand – shelf for 7-2
The building was electric and the roof was raised, however at 57.33, the roof blew off all the way to Meadowhall as Alex Graham made a little bit of history.
The 17-year-old scored his first Steelers and first professional goal with ben O’Connor and Davey Phillips picking up the assists.
It was a great moment, one that was fully appreciated by Graham’s teammates, coaching staff and fans.
It wasn’t the last we saw of Graham either, but more of that later.
The game ended, the Steelers were victorious and over 6500 fans happy. On to the presentations.
