Whistle Wins it for The Steelers 2-1 Against the Storm

Brandon Whistle’s third period goal secured the points for The Steelers in a tight 2-1 victory against the Manchester Storm

A 4 point weekend for Aaron Fox’s side who closed the gap to just 2 points on the Belfast Giants.

The story of this one so far …

Brandon Whistle kept his place in the side with Tommaso Traversa again a healthy scratch.

Steelers have out shot the Storm 12-4 in the opening period though Manchester have had the games only power-play to date, that coming when Martin Latal went for interference at 6.10

The penalty kill that was 100% on Saturday in Cardiff again killed and that momentum set The Steelers on the way.

Dowdy intercepted a Manchester pass to go in all alone, shoot to score at 12.59 for the opening goal of the night.

It was a dull middle period though Steelers did have a power play chance when Mercier was called for tripping at 32.01

Manchester slowly kept working hard and deserved their equaliser at 38 minutes, Frankie Melton the scorer.

Storm could have taken the lead when going close in the final second.

Steelers killed a 2 minute tripping on Baruta early in the period

Then came the big moment as Brandon Whistle set up Sointu, his deflected shot returned to Whistle who slotted home at 48.44, the eventual game winner.

If there was a success story this weekend it was The Steelers penalty kill, 100% in Cardiff one Saturday billing 5 Devils power-plays. It was three tonight including a further third period penalties against Saxrud Danielsen.

Steelers did have a couple of attempts at the empty net but without success.

The points come home though with man of the match Brandon Whistle celebrating with an Eddy

Final score. Sheffield Steelers 2-1 Manchester Storm
